The environment in my Family Daycare is warm, caring and friendly. The children will always be greeted with a smile. The rules I have are simple and easy to follow. Consistency is very important, this way the children know where they stand. I treat the children with respect and in turn the children learn to respect their environment, the toys they use, each other’s belongings as well as each other. I believe that children develop their learning best through play, life experiences and group interaction. In my family daycare I strive to give the children this type of an environment

I have  child size tables, chairs and shelves. This ensures that the children may independently choose their own choice of books, toys and drawing materials.

In my Family Daycare there is an adequate amount of space. Children feel comfortable to play with others or have quiet time on their own. Schedules and routines are followed from day to day so the children feel secure in knowing what to expect.

Lunch and snack time are very important activities for pre-schoolers. Children like to make food choices, so I will have a variety of good tasting and nutritious foods for snack every day. The parents are expected to provide a well balanced lunch for their child/children. The children will have opportunities to prepare and bake foods together.  These tasks will give the children opportunity to practice fine motor skills such as pouring, stirring and measuring. While sitting around the table at lunch or snack, the children will refine social skills such as cooperation, taking turns, working with a group and conversation skills. At the end of lunch or snack time we will all clean up as a group. For children, food is a big part of their environment. They often want to explore food by touching, smelling and then tasting. Lunch & snack time should be a happy and enjoyable activity for the children. It should enhance self-esteem through the feeling of competence in the world.  “ I can pour all by myself.” It is all about learning in a fun and positive way.
